5 Things to Love About Platinum Sun

As I mentioned in my first blog post, I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when I signed on with Platinum Sun rash guards. I was originally sold on the product by the fact that Marina (one of the founders) is a fellow kiter chick and once we had a chance to speak, I found myself totally stoked on her vibe and passion for the company. I live in the Caribbean and am an avid kiteboarder and paddle surfer, so I wear rash guards more than I even wear shoes. Most of mine have been freebies from various events that I have participated in. Even the ones from the big brand names (like Dakine) always seem chintzy, don’t fit very well, and are lacking in the style department. I have been wearing Platinum Sun for almost 5 months now, so I feel like I have a leg to stand as I get on top of my soapbox. I am in the water about 300 days per year (seriously). That being said, 5 months might as well be a lifetime.

#5 The Fabric Is Like Chocolate Silk

When I opened the box and pulled out the first rash guard, I was awestruck by the quality of the fabric. It reminds me of a mix of chocolate and silk, two of the most decadent things I can think of. It’s thick and luxurious. Nothing like any of the other rash guards I have ever had. I swear I would eat it if I could! Oh, and to top it all off, the fabric is 50spf. No more sunburns on my shoulders for me!

#4 The Construction is Superb

As I inspected the rash guards further, I came to realize that someone had put a lot of thought into the construction. The stitching is strong and the extra thick kind has been used in all of the right places. After 5 months of almost daily use my favorite one of the bunch is holding strong and seems like it could stand up to at least 5 more YEARS in the water.

#3 It Fits Perfectly

A lot of my rash guards are too short and loose in the shoulders, but not Platinum Sun! I love love love that the sleeves are a little long, but not too long, just enough to go past my wrist and a little over the top of my hand. Same with the overall length of the shirt, I can pull it down over the top of my board shorts and it is long enough to not get bunched up underneath my harness.

#2 It’s All in the Details

I am a stickler for details and there are 2 that are a standout for me. From the top, the collar is nice and comfy. It’s just the right size – not too tight or too loose. On the bottom, there is this really nice rubber thing sewn into the seam that helps to keep your rash guard in place even after a hard crash. For me there is nothing worse than crashing and having to adjust my rash guard before I get going again. Ain’t nobody got time for that! I just want to crash hard and get right back to trying the trick I am working on. With Platinum Sun, I can!

#1 I Look Like a Rockstar/Princess on the Water

I am for sure the type of girl who generally goes for function over form – BUT if I can get both I am one seriously happy chica. Every time I see a photo of myself wearing a Platinum Sun rash guard, I feel like a cross between a rockstar and a princess. Not to mention, everyone on the beach wants to know where I got mine. Sometimes I want to keep Platinum Sun all to myself, but then I remember how confident my rashies makes me feel on the water – and for that reason I am happy to spread the stoke!
